Dr Johann Broodryk

Ubuntu philosopher (also author, academic, researcher, counsellor, community developer, cultural tourism operator, business entrepreneur).

The Ubuntu School of Philosophy Consultancy and Lekkerlag Events were established by Dr Johann Broodryk of South Africa.

Dr Broodryk was the first person to obtain a doctorate degree on Ubuntu after intensive empirical research, interviews and workshops on Ubuntu.
He dedicated his thesis on Ubuntu to Nelson Mandela, a previous President of South Africa, for being the perfect example of an Ubuntu personality, and Mandela also signed the thesis.
The theme of the thesis was “Ubuntuism as a worldview to order society” and it was approved by the Department of Philosophy at UNISA.

Early days
Dr. Broodryk spent part of his early childhood years on a family farm in the Roossenekal area near Sekekhuneland, and his close contact with the Ndebele tribe, their customs and uncomplicated way of living had an everlasting influence on his political, philosophical, management and life coping approaches.

As a youth worker he assisted government department over a total of 24 years to establish black youth clubs and forums for the purposes of community development based on the values of Ubuntu.
He studied at the Universities of Pretoria, Stellenbosch, Erasmus (in Rotterdam, Netherlands) and South Africa (UNISA).
He obtained ten academic qualifications including a BA and BA (HONS) cum laude, MA in political philosophy and a D.Lit degree in (African) Philosophy.
His doctorate’s quaification was obtained from UNISA (University of South Africa) in the Department of Philosophy, after extensive research all over Africa and personal mentoring by the late Walter Sisulu, Kgalushi Koka, Prof Leriba Teffo, Dr Mathole Motshekga, Dr Mulalo Nemavhundu, Justus Tshungu and Dr Oscar Dhlomo.
Since almost nothing was written on Ubuntu at that time period, he facilitated workshops where academics and speakers from various fields made contributions on how they view Ubuntu. Using this work procedure, more than 80 papers were delivered which served as his literature research.
Johann also served on the Research Unit for African Philosophy at UNISA.
He is a training consultant on Ubuntu Management Philosophy and life coping skills and has written ten books on the subject of Ubuntu. The books were dedicated to inter alia Nelson Mandela, Sir Richard Branson, President Barack Obama, and Dr Nico Smith.
Dr Broodryk trains companies on Ubuntu management/team building, and as a philosophical consultant and life coach he also teaches life coping skills. He has a keen interest in political affairs.
Johann is also a national tourism operator/guide specialising in cultural and wild life tourism. His business involvement also covers the restaurant, catering, party buses and various fun events.
